Before a website build starts, prepare five things: the type of website you need, a domain in your own name, the text and photos for each page, the logins your developer will need, and (for an online shop) your product list and payment and courier accounts. Most website projects in Bangladesh are delayed by missing content or accounts, not by design or code.
1. Decide what kind of website you need
- Landing page: one page for one product, offer, course or campaign.
- Business website: a few pages explaining your company, services, location and contact details.
- E-commerce website: a catalogue, cart and checkout for selling many products online.
This decides everything else on the list. If you are unsure, write down what you want visitors to do: call you, send a WhatsApp message, fill a form or place an order.
2. Domain and hosting
- Choose a domain name that is short, easy to spell and matches your brand. Check that the matching Facebook page name is similar.
- Register it in your own name and email. If a developer registers it for you, ask for the account login.
- .com or .com.bd: a .com is quick to register. A .com.bd is handled through Bangladesh’s .bd registry and usually needs more paperwork and time, so check the current requirements before you decide.
- Hosting: decide who will provide it and who pays the monthly or yearly bill. A small business website needs much less than a busy online shop.
3. Brand basics
- Your logo in the best quality you have, ideally a PNG or SVG file rather than a screenshot.
- Your brand colours, if you already use them on Facebook or packaging.
- Your business name exactly as you want it shown everywhere, with the same spelling on Facebook and Google.
4. Text for each page
You know your business best, so the facts should come from you. Write simple notes for each page; they do not need to be polished.
- About: who you are, how long you have been operating, what makes you different. Only claims you can stand behind.
- Services or products: what you offer, who it is for, and prices if you are happy to publish them.
- Contact: phone, WhatsApp, email, opening hours, and your address only if you want it public.
- Common questions: the questions customers ask you most on the phone or in Messenger. These make an excellent FAQ section.
5. Photos
- Real photos of your work, products, shop or team. Customers trust real photos more than stock images.
- Shoot in daylight with a plain background. A modern phone is enough.
- Send the original files, not compressed copies from WhatsApp or Facebook.
6. For an online shop: product list
Prepare a spreadsheet with one row per product and these columns:
- Product name, category and price (and sale price if any)
- Options such as size, colour, shade, volume or pack size, with stock for each
- Short description and key details (material, ingredients, dimensions, care)
- Photo file names that match each product
Start with your best-selling products. You can add the rest after launch.
7. For an online shop: policies, payments and delivery
- Policies: delivery charges inside and outside Dhaka, delivery time, and your return and exchange rules.
- Payments: Cash on Delivery needs no account. A connected bKash, Nagad or card gateway needs an approved merchant account from the provider, and approval can take time, so apply early.
- Courier: if you want orders sent to Steadfast, Pathao, RedX or another courier from the website, open or confirm your merchant account and ask what connection options they offer.
8. Logins and access
- Domain registrar and hosting account, or permission for your developer to create them in your name.
- Your Facebook page and Meta Business account, if you want the Meta Pixel connected for ads.
- Your Google Business Profile, if you want the website linked to it.
Share access through each platform’s “add a person” or “add a partner” option where possible, instead of sending your personal password.
9. Decide who will update the website
Choose the person who will change prices, add products, publish posts or answer form messages after launch. They should attend the handover training.
A quick copy-paste checklist
- Website type decided (landing page, business website or online shop)
- Domain chosen and registered in your name
- Hosting decided
- Logo and brand colours
- Text notes for each page and a list of common questions
- Real photos, original files
- Product spreadsheet (online shop)
- Delivery, return and exchange policies (online shop)
- Payment and courier merchant accounts applied for (online shop)
- Access to Facebook, Meta Business and Google Business Profile
- Person responsible for updates after launch
