Good product photos answer “real colour?”, “size koto?” and “quality kemon?” before the customer messages you. You do not need a studio: a phone, window light and a plain background are enough if you follow a consistent routine.

Light

  • Use soft daylight from a window, not the phone flash and not harsh direct sun.
  • Avoid mixed lighting (a yellow bulb and daylight together), which changes colours.
  • Photograph at the same time of day for a batch so products look consistent.

Background and setup

  • A plain white, light grey or neutral surface keeps attention on the product.
  • Keep the background the same across the whole catalogue.
  • Steam or iron clothes and wipe bottles and bags before shooting.

Angles to shoot for every product

  1. Front, as the main image.
  2. Back and side.
  3. A close-up of fabric, texture, label or stitching.
  4. A scale shot: on a model, next to a hand or with a ruler, so size is clear.
  5. For bags, the inside; for shoes, the sole; for bottles, the label and box.

Colour accuracy

Customers return items when the colour looks different in person. Check the photo against the real product on your screen, avoid heavy filters and, for cosmetics, show the shade on skin or a swatch.

Consistent size and framing

Use the same shape for every main image (square works well on mobile), leave a little space around the product and keep it centred. Consistent images make a catalogue look professional.

File size and format

Very large photos slow the website and use up hosting. Resize images before uploading and keep each file reasonably small, while sharp enough to zoom. JPEG or WebP is fine.

Names and descriptions for the images

Name files clearly (for example blue-cotton-kurti-front.jpg) and write a short description of what the image shows. This helps you organise the catalogue and helps visually impaired customers.

Permissions

Only use photos you own or have permission to use. Supplier or brand photos may have conditions, and models should agree to their photos being used.

Video

A ten-second video showing fabric movement, a bag opening or a perfume bottle in hand often answers more than several photos. Keep it short and light.
